What’s Actually Included in a Cruise

Cruise fares can feel confusing, especially for first‑time travellers. The good news is that most cruise lines include far more than people expect. Your accommodation, meals in the main dining venues, entertainment, and access to the ship’s facilities are all part of the base fare.

Typically, the base fare covers your stateroom or cabin, daily housekeeping, and a variety of complimentary dining options including buffet and main dining rooms. Entertainment such as Broadway-style shows, live music, and onboard activities like fitness classes or trivia are also included. Additionally, many ships provide access to pools, gyms, libraries, and kids’ clubs at no extra charge.

Extras usually include speciality dining at upscale restaurants, alcoholic and some non-alcoholic drinks, spa treatments, Wi‑Fi access, and certain shore excursions or tours. Some cruise lines offer beverage packages or internet bundles for purchase, which can be cost-effective if you plan to indulge.

Understanding these inclusions and exclusions helps you budget confidently and avoid surprises once onboard. It’s also wise to check the specific cruise line’s policies, as inclusions can vary significantly between companies and ship classes.
